Although involved as a family with the Co-op, my true understanding began in 1993 with my roles at the Co-operative College with member education and international programmes with ICA co-operatives. During this time, I was also secretary/treasurer of Co-operatives East Midlands and then Co-operatives West Midlands, promoting co-operative enterprise. Aspiration: to support Council in helping to renew our Co-op.

I am representing the East Midlands, and have been involved in co-operative democracy for over 30 years. I work for an independent co-operative society and have a great understanding of all stakeholders due to my grassroot community work. My career has focused on business education, latterly with the Open University, but includes time in the private and voluntary sectors also. Locally, I volunteer for environmental and heritage causes. As a Council Member, I hope to use all my experience to improve member participation at all levels within the Co-op. I'm elected by Co-op members in the East Midlands to represent them on the Members' Council. It's my job to hold the Co-op Group Board to account on behalf of Co-op members and ensure that co-operative values remain at the heart of the organisation.
Fairtrade, reducing plastic waste & ensuring that the Co-op has strong community links are key issues for me. I'm a Councillor on Nottingham City Council and a member of the Co-operative Party. I'm also a volunteer, member-elected Director of Nottingham Credit Union.

My work has been in environmental education in schools and the community, and I've served on the boards of a number of environmental organisations at a national and local level. I currently run community gardens in and around Nottingham, as well as volunteering with the local Abundance project to redistribute surplus garden fruit and I organise a Garage Sale Safari in my home village.
The commitment to act ethically and sustainably is a core strength that draws me, as a consumer, to shop with the Co-op. By serving on the Members' Council, I aim to support the organisation in continuing to build on this commitment. We're clearly at a tipping point for the environment and I believe the Co-op can and must make a difference.
